History (page 2)

Ludvig Nitter married "demoiselle" Øllegård Klingenberg. When he died in 1776, his widow carried on, using his matriculation certificate, a widow's right at that time. The couple had six children, and again it was the youngest son that took over the hotel. Henrik ran the hotel 1790 to 1821, when his son, Erik took over.

Erik married Malene Mo from Hafslo. The couple had one son, who died when still a child, and four daughters. It was the eldest daughter, Mette Malene, who inherited the deeds to the property. The first tourists started to visit the West Country in the mid-1800's. The Swedish-Norwegian Crown Prince, later King Carl 15th, toured Norway in 1865. He journeyed over the Sognefjell and left via the Sognefjord. One of his travelling companions was the photographer, Mathias Hansen, and he was in all likelihood the first person to photograph Solvorn and the Walaker Hotel.

Mette Nitter Walaker died in childbirth, only forty years old. It was the 11th birth in a 23-year long marriage to Jakob Sjursen Talle. Four of the 11 children had died young, and of those that survived it was the eldest son, Erik who took over the hotel in 1878, later passing it on to the holder of the allodial rights, his brother Wilken.
