History (page 3) Wilken was married to Inga Ragnhild Mo from Luster, and she became legendary as a hotel manageress in Solvorn. As well as running the hotel, they also ran the boat and ferry terminal and the post office. It was now that the foundations were laid for modernised hotel operation at Walaker, when in the mid-thirties they converted the old inn in order to make it more functional. Room capacity was increased in 1964 through the erection of a bungalow-like motel building in the garden, next to the old Tingstova. Times change, as do generations, but at the Walaker Hotel little else has changed. Today's hosts are the 8th and 9th generation of the Nitter family. Hermod was born and grew up in Solvorn, but his wife Oddlaug Marie, who's maiden name was Bringe, is originally from Numedal. They took over as owners in 1978, but have functioned as managers since they were married in 1968. In connection with the 300 years anniversary, the art gallery, Galleri Walaker 300 was opened in the old outhouse at the rear of the hotel.
Today they run the family hotel together with their son Ole Henrik, and all three are highly focused on carrying on the hotel's august traditions.
