Excursion - Ferry trip on the Nerøyfjord to Gudvangen

Sogn folkemuseum - the Sogn Public Museum - is one Norway's finest, with live farm animals and a "Museum Farmer" who brings life to the farmyard. Then carry on to the Boat Museum in Kaupanger, and Kaupanger Stave Church.

The ferry sails from Kaupanger to Gudvangen. The ferry trip takes a little over two hours, and is certainly one the most breathtaking boat trips anywhere in the world. From Gudvangen, drive on to Underdal. This tiny village lies just off the main road between Flåm and Gudvangen. Don't forget to buy some homemade white or brown cheese while you're in Underdal.

The next stop after Underdal is Flåm, which has Norway's most famous railway line, Flåmsbana. Flåmsbana is 20 km long, and took 20 years to construct.

From Flåm the journey carries on to Lærdal. You can get there by either taking the road over the mountain or driving through the world's longest road tunnel, a staggering 24 km. We recommend the mountain road for its fabulous views.

While in Lærdal a visit to Norsk Villaksenter - (Wild Salmon Centre) is a must. Lærdal is also famous for all the fine timber houses down on the "islands".

Return to the hotel. The round trip will take between 6 -8 hours.
