Walk - Tungestølen-Austerdalsbreen
"The finest ice-scenery in Europe", said the English mountain climber William Cecil Slingsby of the three exotic glacier falls, the Loke, Odin and Tor Glaciers, which throw themselves down from the Jostedal Glacier at the Austerdal face. A taste of the beauty and magnificence of the glaciers without having to actually climb the blue ice.
The starting point for the trip is Tungestølen, the tourist cabin at the start of Veitastrondi. The path leads straight on just over the bridge, is well sign-posted and easy to find. It runs along the western reaches of the Austerdal River all the way to the glacier. The pathway is mostly flat terrain with a few climbs on the way. As always, when you are in the vicinity of a glacier, keep away from the ice. Ice slides and calving can occur without warning, so keep your distance. The dominating element in the landscape is the moraine ridges.
At a normal pace the walk takes about two hours.
